A lot has been said about Gautam Gambhir’s relationship with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Something clearly isn’t right as far as communication goes with him and the top brass. The BCCI doesn’t seem to be satisfied with Gambhir’s selection, both in the team and his support staff.
BCCI brings in new batting coach
Sitanshu Kotak has been brought in as the India cricket team’s batting coach despite two assistant coaches, both of whom were batters, clearly present. Does this suggest that BCCI isn’t happy with how and what Abhishek Nayar and Ryan ten Doeschate are doing?
Gambhir’s stern approach and lack of communication
Reports further revealed that bowling coach Morne Morkel was chided by Gambhir at one point during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy due to his late arrival for practice due to some personal reasons. Furthermore, some players inside the dressing room feel there is a lack of communication between coaches, Gambhir especially, and them. They don’t think there is enough clarity as there was when Rahul Dravid was the head coach.

Axar Patel disagrees that players have issues with support staff reports
Before the India vs. England 1st T20I, Axar Patel was asked the question about communication between the support staff and the players. The all-rounder who was made T20I vice-captain stated that he can’t comment on what happened in Australia, but from his point of view, everything seemed fine.
“Communication is clear with support staff. I wasn’t with the team for the last two and a half months, so I have no idea what transpired in Australia. Now that I have rejoined the team, the support staff is the same, and so is the atmosphere. Whatever inputs we want, we talk to the batting or bowling coach accordingly. In T20Is, it is a fast game, so we talk about important decisions quickly, so that’s what we talk about, what my (or anyone’s) role is,” Axar Patel told reported in Kolkata.
