Australia WC Squad: Marnus Labuschagne is the most notable absentee as the Australian Cricket Team squad was unveiled on Monday. Pat Cummins will captain the side at the World Cup 2023 with a bunch of all-rounders in the mix. All-rounder Aaron Hardie and spinner Tanveer Sangha bolt into the plans. The same squad will feature in South Africa and India before the tournament begins on October 5. The squad will be trimmed to 15 members before the deadline of September 5.

The 18-man contingent will travel to South Africa for a five match ODI series before heading to India for three more ODIs. With surfaces likely to assist spin, Australia have bolstered their attack with the inclusion of Tanveer Sangha. Adam Zampa remains the lead spinner, while Ashton Agar also remains an option. Glenn Maxwell is also a handy option.

Hardie likewise serves as an emergency option for their pace bowling all-rounders. Sean Abbot, Mitchell Marsh, Marcus Stoinis, and Cameron Green are all set to make the cut, with Hardie as an option on the bench. Marsh opened the batting in David Warner’s absence, and a role change is likely on the cards.

Labuschagne’s omission is surprising given he has played 30 of Australia’s 38 ODIs since his debut. However, an average of 31.37 in a competitive team eventually got him the sack. Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc both suffered injuries during the Ashes but will make a recovery before heading to India.
