AUS vs WI 2nd T20I: Aussies ride on Maxwell’s ton to win T20I series vs West Indies with a match to spare

Australia batted first and scored 241. West Indies faltered in the chase, and could only score 207/9, falling 34 runs short.

Australia on Sunday took an unassailable 2-0 lead against West Indies in the three match T20I series. The Aussies outplayed the Caribbean side in the AUS vs WI 2nd T20I courtesy of a magnificent ton by Glenn Maxwell. Australia batted first and scored 241. However, West Indies faltered in the chase, and could only score 207/9, falling 34 runs short.

After losing the AUS vs WI 1st T20I, West Indies won the toss on Sunday and put Australia to bat first. The Aussies had the chance to put the series to bed with a huge score, and the Mitchell Marsh-led team didn’t disappoint. David Warner gave a fiery start to the Aussies with an innings of 19-ball 22. Captain Mitchell Marsh, batting at first down, scored a quickfire 29 of 12 balls but could not convert his start to a big score.

However, Glenn Maxwell starred with a fantastic century as the all-rounder single-handedly pushed the Australian score over 200. Maxwell wreaked havoc in Adelaide oval, scoring 120 runs in 55 balls. The innings was studded by 12 fours and 8 huge sixes as Australia finished their innings at 241 runs. Almost all the West Indies bowlers went for a hammering, with Jason Holder picking up two wickets.

West Indies kept losing wickets at regular intervals in the chase. Opener Johnson Charles looked solid with his 11-ball 24 but lost his wicket trying to keep up with the required rate. Andre Russell started a late onslaught in the lower order. Russell looked in his elements and scored a 16-ball 37 but could not help his team go all the way. Captain Rovman Powell was the highest scorer for his team, scoring 63 of 36 balls but it wasn’t enough as West Indies lost the match and the series with quite some margin.
