Ashwin sells himself for Rs 8.5 cr to CSK, Aiden Markaram at Rs 2.5 cr in IPL mock auction

Ashwin was roped in by CSK for Rs 8.5 crore in the IPL mock auction conducted by the spinner himself while Markram was bagged cheaply for just Rs 2.5 crore

In a surprising turn of events, the IPL mock auction conducted by spinner R Ashwin saw himself being sold to CSK for a whooping Rs 8.5 crore. The Tamil Nadu spinner, who started his IPL career with the five-time champions, has been released by RR ahead of IPL 2025 auction and is looking for a new team in the upcoming season. Among the players sold to CSK in Ashwin’s IPL mock auction, there were some surprise picks, including Aiden Markram for Rs 2.5 cr and T Natarajan sold at Rs 10 cr.

Ashwin, Markram head to CSK in IPL mock auction

Ravichandran Ashwin, who has registered himself for a base price of Rs 2 crore in the IPL 2025 auction, was roped in by CSK for Rs 8.5 crore in the IPL mock auction conducted by the spinner himself. What was more surprising was South Africa’s Aiden Markram being roped into the side for just Rs 2.5 crore, 50 lakhs more than the price that he has registered himself for in the auction. Apart from CSK’s retailed players including Ravindra Jadeja and Ruturaj Gaikwad who have been retained for Rs 18 crore each, the mock auction saw CSK acquire the services of T Natarajan for Rs 10 cr. The pacer was previously a part of SRH but was released ahead of the new season in 2025.

The mock auction saw CSK going to on to recruit batter Rahul Tripathi for Rs 8.5 crore, ex-player Sam Curran for Rs 7.5 crore, spinner Rahul Chahar for Rs 6.5 crore among the main players. The Right to Match card (RTM) was used by the five-time champions for opener Devon Conway, procuring his services for Rs 5 crore only.

The mock auction conducted by Ashwin saw CSK bag a strong line-up of backups, including Romario Shepherd, William O’Rourke, Sherfane Rutherford among the international stars. The list of Indian players included Yash Thakur, ex-CSK star Rajvardhan Hangrekar, Atharva Taide and Suyash Prabhudesai, all acquired at rates lesser than Rs 2 cr.
