Ambati Rayudu to play for Mumbai Indians franchise MI Emirates, quits politics in another U-turn

MI Emirates also named Nicholas Pooran as their new captain for the upcoming ILT20 season.

Former Chennai Super Kings batter Ambati Rayudu came to the lime-light on the social media platforms with his decision to quit the ruling Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) in Andhra Pradesh on Sunday (January 6). Ambati Rayudu expressed his intention to take a break from politics, has now shed light on his decision by revealing his commitment to the MI Emirates team in the upcoming second edition of the UAE’s ILT20 cricket tournament.

Taking to his official X profile, Rayudu wrote, “I, Ambati Rayudu, will be representing the Mumbai Indians in the upcoming ILt20 from January 20 in Dubai. Which requires me to be politically non-affiliated whilst playing professional sports.”

Earlier, the right-handed batter retired from IPL after winning the record fifth title with Chennai Super Kings. Ambati Rayudu was an integral part of the Yellow Army and played several match-winning knocks for the team.

Meanwhile, MI Emirates named Nicholas Pooran as their new captain for the upcoming season as he replaced veteran Kieron Pollard. The MI franchise named Pollard as their captain for the upcoming SA20 edition.
