Alana ‘Warne’ recreates legends ‘ball of the century’ against Pooja Vastrakar

Alana King has been one of the most-improved spinners in women's cricket, and in 23 ODIs has picked 30 wickets.

The third and final India women vs Australia women ODI saw the visitors win by a massive 190 runs, as they claimed the series as well, 0-3. There were a few moments in the match that stood out, like Phoebe Litchfield’s ton, her catch of Amanjot Kaur, and Alyssa Healy’s 82, but one important moment failed to grab the attention.

Though not important in the context of the match, but this particular moment reminded everyone of legendary Shane Warne, and his ‘ball of the century’ to Mike Gatting in 1993. Aussie leg-spinner Alana King, replicated that ball from 31 years back, in the match against India, to dismiss a clueless Pooja Vastrakar.

Just like Warne, King too pitched the ball outside the leg stump, from where it turned sharply to take Vastrakar’s off-stump. Meanwhile, India were bowled out for a paltry 148 while chasing a mammoth 339. Now, after losing the ODIs, the India vs Australia T20Is will follow, beginning January 5 in Mumbai.
