Agarkar to meet Rohit-Dravid in WI, World Cup 2023 roadmap, transition on agenda

Ajit Agarkar hasn't met the team management in person since his appointment as chief selector

Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar will have a sit down with captain Rohit Sharma and head coach Rahul Dravid after travelling to the West Indies. Recently appointed chief selector, Agarkar will be present during the IND vs WI 2nd Test. The former fast bowler will discuss plans for the World Cup 2023.

“Currently Salil Ankola is in the West Indies but he will be back after the Test series gets over. Ajit will be joining the team before the start of the white-ball leg,” a BCCI source in the know of things told PTI on conditions of anonymity.

India starts as favourites when the World Cup kicks off on October 5 in Ahmedabad. Agarkar is yet to meet the team management in person since his appointment. The trip is an opportunity for him to collaborate with Dravid and Rohit. The visit comes at the right time, with Dravid and Co set to get a mini-break for the Ireland series.

The selection committee and team management must work together with the World Cup 2023 on the horizon. They will also address issues with player fitness and workload management. Outlining a transition plan for the team’s future endeavours will also be discussed between the chairman of selectors and the team management.

The Asia Cup 2023 is vital preparation for India before the World Cup. It is the perfect dress rehearsal for the WC 2023 at home. Agarkar will want to align himself with the team management. The new chief selector ticked most boxes in his selection for the Asian Games and the IND vs WI T20Is and will hope to continue doing so.
