Ajinkya Rahane has been announced as the captain of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. He was bought by KKR for INR 1.5 crore in the IPL 2025 auction. However, KKR’s most expensive player was Venkatesh Iyer, whom they acquired for INR 23.75 crore. There was speculation that Iyer would be chosen to lead the team, but Rahane’s appointment as captain came as a surprise to everyone.

Ajinkya Rahane is ranked 16th in the team with a salary of INR 1.5 crore. Youngsters like Angkrish Raghuvanshi and Harshit Rana are earning more than him. As a captain, Rahane is the lowest-paid skipper in IPL 2025. In the previous season with Chennai Super Kings (CSK), he was earning INR 50 lakh.
As a captain, he will be at the center and have major responsibilities; however, since his auction price is low, he will earn less than many others.
