Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have started their preparations for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. The defending champions have assembled their squad at Eden Gardens, 10 days before they face Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at their home in the tournament opener.
KKR begins training for IPL 2025
As has been the case, KKR started proceedings with their customary ‘pujo,’ with captain Ajinkya Rahane being the centre of it. Rahane had joined his new franchise yesterday, but many top stars like Venkatesh Iyer, Rinku Singh, and Andre Russell are linking up today.
Rahane will have to be prepared. He’s replacing Shreyas Iyer, who gave KKR their first IPL title in 10 years. There will be big expectations. The 3-time champions are also without their mentor Gautam Gambhir, who has since become the India cricket team’s head coach. Chandrakant Pandit remains with them, but the pressure of big expectations will be there.
Rahane has experience leading two IPL teams, Rising Pune Supergiant and Rajasthan Royals. He also recently led Mumbai to the 2024-25 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT). That is why he was appointed as KKR captain over Venkatesh Iyer. The question now is how he will take charge of the team in IPL 2025.
