Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has returned to India after an emphatic win over South Africa in Cape Town. With the IND vs AFG T20Is starting on January 11, everyone is wondering whether Rohit will be part of the squad for the 3-match series.
Rohit has been one of the most T20 players in the world, with 5 IPL trophies and one T20 World Cup to his name. However, the star batter’s performance in the last couple of years has slipped.
Rohit Sharma’s T20 struggles
The batter hasn’t played a T20I match in over a year and had a below-par 2022 season. The batter averaged just 24.29 while striking the ball at 134.42 in 2022.
In the last T20 World Cup (2022), Rohit Sharma scored just 116 runs at an abysmal average of 19.33 and 106.42 as India was thrashed by England in the semifinal.
If people thought that the star batter was just having issues on the international stage, they were wrong. His IPL numbers are even worse. Since 2016, Rohit has never had a season where his average was over 30 and his striking was 135 or above.
In the last two IPL seasons, Rohit has scored 600 runs, with just two fifties to his name and an average of just 20. His strike rate isn’t great either, with him scoring at a touch over 125.
Looking at his record in the last couple of years, one might wonder if he even deserves a place in his franchise, much less the India cricket team.
