Age no bar: Ashish Nehra picks Rohit Sharma over Hardik Pandya to lead in T20 World Cup 2024

“No one can remove Rohit Sharma from the team unless he decides to retire himself,” said expert Ashish Nehra.

Former Indian pacer and cricket expert Ashish Nehra has backed Rohit Sharma to lead team India instead of Hardik Pandya in the upcoming T20 World Cup. Speaking to JioCinema ahead of the IND vs AUS 4th T20, Ashish Nehra said no one can remove Rohit Sharma from the Indian side unless he decides to walk away on his own.

“Age is no criterion. What matters is how many runs you are scoring. Rohit Sharma is performing. So any selector will be tempted and they will have discussions unless he announces his retirement, which I hope won’t be the case in the near future. No one can remove Rohit Sharma from the team unless he decides on his own to walk away,” said Ashish Nehra.

Rohit Sharma is fearless: Nehra

Earlier, Ashish Nehra highlighted Rohit Sharma’s “fearless” batting approach in the recent times. The veteran pacer branded the Indian captain as “a 36-year-old super-youngster.” He also backed team India star batter Virat Kohli to play in the next T20 World Cup. It must be mentioned that the T20 World Cup 2024 will be played from June 4 to 30 in the West Indies and USA with as many as 20 teams participating in the tournament.

Both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are not a part of the ongoing IND vs AUS T20 series. The duo will also not be present during the limited-over matches against South Africa. However, both Sharma and Kohli will be a part of the Test series against the Proteas.

Ashish Nehra also spoke on Hardik Pandya and how his injury has made things difficult for the national selectors. “I don’t know about captaincy, there is still time. It is a tricky one for the selectors also. Hardik Pandya also got injured and it will be interesting to see when he comes back into the Indian side. If Hardik Pandya plays straight in the IPL, it will be difficult for any selection committee,” concluded Ashish Nehra.
