After T20 WC debacle, Pakistan Test team coach Jason Gillespie gets in act with Karachi camp

This series of training camps and the Darwin tour signify the PCB's commitment to developing a strong Test team.

Following a disappointing T20 World Cup group stage exit, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is wasting no time in preparing the red-ball team for upcoming challenges. To get the young gun ready for brutal red-ball cricket, Pakistan Test Team coach Jason Gillespie will attend the Karachi camp of ‘Pakistan A’ and will also accompany them to the tour of Darwin.

Pakistan A pre-season camp

A 25-player contingent will kick things off with a pre-season fitness and fielding camp at the Hanif Mohammad High Performance Centre in Karachi, starting June 24th and running until July 7th.

Pakistan A gears up for Darwin Tour

Following the pre-season camp, a select group of 15 players will transition into the Pakistan Shaheens (Pakistan A) training camp from July 8th to 13th. This camp serves as preparation for their upcoming tour to Darwin, Australia.

Pakistan A tour to Darwin

The Pakistan Shaheens’ Darwin tour itinerary is packed with competitive cricket. They will play two four-day matches against Bangladesh A, two 50-over matches against both Northern Territory and Bangladesh A, and participate in the nine-team Top End T20 Series.

Head Coach Jason Gillespie oversees preps

Jason Gillespie, Pakistan’s red-ball head coach, will play a crucial role in these preparations. He will supervise the Pakistan Shaheens training camp in Karachi and travel with the team to Darwin as head coach for the four-day matches.

He will return to Pakistan after second four-day match to focus on the national side’s training for the upcoming two-Test series against Bangladesh.

Experienced coaches

The support staff for these camps boasts a blend of experience and expertise. Mohammad Masroor, who will oversee the pre-season camp, will travel with the Shaheens as Assistant Coach-cum-Manager. Abdul Rehman will join the team as head coach for the white-ball matches in Darwin.

Players currently competing in the United Kingdom and those recently involved in the T20 World Cup are exempt from the pre-season camp, allowing them a well-deserved break.
