After missing IND vs SA 1st T20 Deepak Chahar also doubtful for ODI series

On December 5, Chahar requested that the BCCI grant him leave due to personal reasons.

Deepak Chahar can’t seem to catch a break. The all-rounder’s last couple of years have been marred with injuries, whether it be in the Indian jersey or the CSK one. Now, soon after he’s regained his full fitness, he’s been hit with a hefty blow that has knocked him to the ground. As if the troubles on the field (fitness) weren’t enough, Deepak has now suffered dearly off the field as well.

The bowling all-rounder was named in the squad for ODIs and T20Is for the India tour of South Africa (IND vs SA). However, Deepak had to pull out of the first T20I on December 10 in Durban due to his father’s sudden ailment. On December 5, the news of him missing the tour opener came out. And now, just hours before the first match gets underway, his chances to don the India cricket team jersey have suffered yet another blow.

According to the Telegraph India, the all-rounder may not travel to South Africa due to his father’s deteriorating health.

“Deepak hasn’t yet joined the team in Durban as a close family member needed urgent hospitalisation. He had taken permission for a break as he needed to attend to his family member. He may or may not join the squad depending on his family member’s health in coming days,” a senior BCCI official informed PTI.

In a conversation with Sports Tak on December 5, Deepak Chahar shared, “For me, my father is very important. He made me the player I am. I cannot leave him in this condition and couldn’t go anywhere.”

“We got him to the hospital on time. Else, it could have been dangerous. His condition is better at the moment,” Deepak Chahar said, providing a glimpse into the challenging situation he and his family are facing.

When asked about his return to the team for the South Africa tour, Chahar emphasized that it solely depends on his father’s health. “It depends on my father’s health. Right now, I can’t leave him and go, he stated.
