After Jasprit Bumrah, Tushar Deshpande calls out “fake news” on injury

Tushar Deshpande has been sidelined since making India debut in Zimbawe in July 2024. He underwent ankle surgery in September.

Days after Jasprit Bumrah lashed out on social media, Mumbai pacer Tushar Deshpande has followed his path. Like his senior, Deshpande has called out a media report fake news that claimed the pacer would be out for three months. Had he been sidelined for that long, he would have missed the first part of IPL 2025. Deshpande switched from Chennai Super Kings to Rajasthan Royals at the IPL 2025 Auction.

A PTI report claimed that Tushar Deshpande could be sidelined for “two to three” months due to a recurrence of an ankle injury.

“Fake news!!!! UNACCEPTABLE and UNPROFESSIONAL to NOT authenticate the news before posting !! I look at it as a very cheap move to gain a few extra views on your page!” Tushar Deshpande lashed out on Twitter.

Tushar Deshpande’s injury

In the last two seasons of IPL, Deshpande made a strong impression. After an impressive IPL 2023 for Chennai Super Kings where he bagged 21 wickets in 16 matches, he followed up with 17 wickets in 13 matches. IPL performances paved the way for his India debut as he featured in India’s T20I side on the Zimbabwe tour in July 2024.

However, since then, he has missed the entire domestic season with an ankle injury. In September, he had to undergo surgery in London. While CSK tried to buy him back at the auction, Rajasthan Royals outbid MS Dhoni’s franchise. RR paid Rs 6.5 Crore to secure Tushar Deshapnde’s services. But since his surgery, the 29-year-old pacer has yet to return to action. He is likely to miss the remaining Ranji Trophy fixtures as well.

“Tushar’s injury seems to have resurfaced which is likely to keep him away from action for another two to three months,” PTI quoted a doctor involved in the process.

With domestic cricket set to end on March 2 with the Ranji Trophy final, Deshpande’s return may be delayed. If he regains full fitness, he could play for Mumbai in the Ranji knockouts. Else, he will have to wait for his return to IPL 2025 which is set to begin on March 21.
