After 2028, cricket to feature in 2032 Olympics? Jay Shah meets IOC President in Lausanne

ICC chief Jay Shah met IOC President Thomas Bach to strengthen cricket's ties with the Olympics, ahead of cricket's return to the 2028 LA Games.

The new chief of the International Cricket Council (ICC), Jay Shah, recently met with the President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Thomas Bach i Lausanne, Switzerland. Shah has been actively engaging with Olympic Committee members after stepping into his new role. On January 21, the ICC shared pictures of this meeting on social media, showing Shah’s efforts to boost cricket’s ties with the Olympics. Earlier, Shah also had discussions with Cindy Hook, CEO of the Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games Organising Committee.

Cricket’s return to Olympics

Cricket is set to make a comeback in the 2028 Summer Olympics, which will be hosted in Los Angeles. This marks cricket’s return to the Olympics after 128 years, having last been featured in the 1900 Paris Olympics. There are talks that the matches might be played on the East Coast of the USA, which recently hosted the T20 World Cup 2024. Shah expressed his excitement about this development, stating: “This is an exciting time for the sport as we prepare for the LA28 Olympic Games and work to make cricket more inclusive and engaging for fans worldwide.”
