Adam Zampa Equals Mick Lewis Unwanted Record of Most Runs Conceded in ODI

Australian leg-spinner Adam Zampa's 0/113 from 10 overs is the joint-most costliest spell in the ODI cricket history.

Australian leg-spinner Adam Zampa had an awful day in the field as he went to register an unwanted record under his name. To note, South Africa is taking on Australia in the fourth ODI match in SuperSport Park, Centurion. Batting first, the Proteas went on to smash 416/5 in their allotted 50 overs with batters Heinrich Klaasen and David Miller going absolutely berserk in the death overs.

Zampa is considered one of the major part of the Australian team heading into the World Cup in India. However, the spinner was completely dominated by Heinrich Klaasen. The wicket-keeper batter smashed Zampa for seven maximums. Zampa’s figures were 0/50 after six overs and he conceded 63 in the last four overs. He gave away 26 runs in the 48th over to finish on 0/113.

The Australian spinner’s 0/113 from 10 overs is the joint-most costliest spell in the ODI cricket history. Zampa matched the record of his countrymen Lewis, who also conceded 113 from 10 overs against SA in 2006. Former Pakistani pacer Wahab Riaz and Afghanistan’s star spinner Rashid Khan are jointly in third place as they conceded 110 runs. Both the bowlers registered this record against England.

Most runs conceded in an ODI

0/113 (10) – Mick Lewis (AUS) vs SA, Johannesburg, 2006

0/113(10) – Adam Zampa (AUS) vs SA, Centurion, 2023

0/110 (10) – Wahab Riaz (PAK) vs ENG, Nottingham, 2016

0/110 (9) – Rashid Khan (AFG) vs ENG, Manchester, 2019

0/108 (10) – Philippe Boissevain (NED) vs ENG, Amstelveen, 2022

As mentioned above, the home side posted 416 runs on the board thanks to some brilliant hitting from Klaasen. On the other hand, David Miller and Rassie van der Dussen also stroked fifties with the bat. For Australia, pacer Josh Hazlewood scalped two wickets but gave away 79 runs in his 10 over quota. Chasing a big total, Australia top-order did not give a good start to their team as South Africa is heading towards a perfect win.
