Rohit Sharma has been one of the most successful Indian Premier League (IPL) captains; however, he was trained under many captains. 

Rohit Sharma, the most successful captain of the Mumbai Indians and a five-time Indian Premier League (IPL) champion, has played under seven captains in his IPL career so far. The right-handed batter was removed from the MI captaincy this season and it was handed over to Hardik Pandya. Rohit led the team for nine years, guiding them to almost glory.

VVS Laxman

The India’s Test legend VVS Laxman was the captain of the Deccan Chargers where Rohit Sharma played for from 2008 to 2010. In the tournament’s debut season, the Hyderabad-based team finished last in the standings.

Adam Gilchrist

The Australian wicket-keeper batter was appointed as the Deccan Chargers captain. Rohit served as vice-captain under his leadership, and the team clinched the title in South Africa in 2009.

Sachin Tendulkar

Rohit joined Mumbai Indians during the mega auction in 2011, where Sachin Tendulkar served as his captain in the franchise. The team reached the playoffs that season, marking Sachin’s final campaign as skipper.

Harbhajan Singh

Mumbai Indians appointed Harbhajan Singh as their skipper in 2012, following the success they achieved in the Champions League T20 in 2011.

Ricky Ponting

The former Australian Ponting captained Rohit in 2013. After struggling with his batting in the early games of the season, Ponting passed over leadership to Rohit, who guided the Mumbai Indians to their maiden championship title in 2013.

Rohit Sharma has also played under SKY when he was captaining the side for one match against KKR in 2023 IPL season.

Hardik Pandya

For the first time in a decade, Rohit Sharma didn’t captain Mumbai Indians in their match against Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Hardik Pandya, acquired from the Titans, became the sixth player to lead an IPL match under Rohit’s captaincy.
