One bowler, two batsmen, six legitimate deliveries, hundreds of feelings and thousands of emotions. An over has it all. Over the years, Indian Premier League has also witnessed some of the hardest hitting batsmen across the globe, whacking bowlers out of the park at will. In this article, we will take a look at the 5 most expensive overs in IPL. Let us take a look:

Rahul Sharma (31 runs)

It was in the 21st match of the 2012 edition, between RCB and Pune Warriors. Young leg-spinner Rahul Sharma was smashed all over the park by Chris Gayle. The Universe Boss smashed Rahul Sharma for five consecutive sixes while Saurabh Tiwary took a single on the first delivery making it 31 runs in a single over.

Abhishek Sharma (31 runs)

Lucknow Super Giants were taking on Sunrisers Hyderabad in group-stage match of IPL 2023. Abhishek Sharma, the part-time spinner, had bowled two impressive overs and conceded just 11 runs in them. He was entrusted with the job of bowling the 16th over. LSG took opportunity of that over as Sharma was smashed for 31 runs in an over. West Indies batter Nicholas Pooran was in his brutal best as he smashed Abhishek Sharma for three back-to-back maximums/

Yash Dayal (31 runs)

Rinku Singh created history by smashing five sixes in the last over of a run chase. He guided his team Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to a win over the defending champions Gujarat Giants (GT) in Ahmedabad. Yash Dayal was on the receiving end after he was given the task to defend 29 runs in his last over.

Ravi Bopara (33 runs)

This time, Gayle decided to take on Ravi Bopara. In the 34th match of the 2010 edition of IPL, playing for KKR, against KXIP, Gayle took Ravi Bopara to the cleaners. Manoj Tiwary took a single on the first ball of the over and then Chris Gayle turned on the ‘beast mode’ and smashed Bopara for four back-to-back gigantic sixes. Under pressure, Bopara bowled a wide which also went for a boundary. The next ball was also wided while a single was taken on the last ball making it a 33-run over from the Englishman.

Prasant Parameswaran (37 runs)

Facing Kochi Tuskers, Chris Gayle came to his destructive best in the third over of the second innings when he smashed Prasant Parameswaran for 37 runs in a single over. The first two balls went for sixes over point region, then a four through mid wicket, another one through covers, then two back to back sixes, one over cover and one straight back over the bowlers head and finally, a four thanks to an inside edge, to add insult to Prasant’s injury.
