Bengal pacer Akash Deep who replaced Jasprit Bumrah could pip Mukesh Kumar to partner with Mohd Siraj in IND vs ENG Ranchi Test.

India Cricket Team have already handed over three Test debuts. And there could be 4th in IND vs ENG Ranchi Test. Bengal pacer Akash Deep is in the race to get his Test debut with Jasprit Bumrah rested. While Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma had to choose between two Bengal pacers in Akash Deep and Mukesh Kumar, the former could be ahead. Mohd Siraj will be the lead pacer in Bumrah’s absence.

After playing three Tests, Mukesh Kumar is yet to impress with just 7 wickets. On the other hand, Akash Deep bagged 13 wickets against England Lions. With the home Tests a great opportunity to unleash new talents, Team India are mulling handing another Test debut as per an Indian Express report.

Who is Akash Deep?

Born in 1996 in Dehri, Bihar, Akash Deep travelled to Bengal in pursuit of a cricket career. Unlike many star players, he did not have the encouragement from his father.

But his determination to earn a name in cricket eventually opened the doors. Since making debut in 2019 for Bengal, Akash Deep has played 30 First Class matches, bagging 104 wickets at an impressive average of 23.58. He also has four five-wicket hauls. Together with Mukesh Kumar, he has formed a great pace bowling partnership for Bengal in Ranji trophy.
