300 runs loading? Dale Steyn’s bold IPL 2025 prediction faces test in MI vs SRH today

Dale Steyn’s bold 300-run prediction from March could come true today as MI face SRH at the high-scoring Wankhede.

The 33rd match of IPL 2025 will be played between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) today at the Wankhede Stadium. Ahead of this thrilling encounter, former South African fast bowler Dale Steyn has made a prediction that’s capturing the attention of cricket fans. He believes that there’s a possibility that we will witness the first-ever 300-run innings in T20 cricket today.

Dale Steyn’s prediction

Steyn delighted fans across the globe with his prediction on the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) on March 23 actually. He said that the upcoming match between MI and SRH could see a team crossing the elusive 300 runs mark in the IPL for the first time. He stated, “A small prediction. On April 17, we will see the first 300 runs in the IPL. Who knows, maybe I will also be there to see it.”

This bold forecast comes on the heels of SRH’s explosive performance earlier in IPL 2025, where they posted a massive 286-run total against Rajasthan Royals (RR), the second-highest score in IPL history. They narrowly missed surpassing their own record of 287 runs set against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in 2024 by just two runs.

Wankhede Stadium is a favourable venue

The Wankhede Stadium is known for its batter-friendly conditions. The stadium has short boundaries and a pitch that favours high-scoring games. It’s a venue where big totals are frequently observed, and if a team starts strong following the toss, Steyn’s prediction could very well fall into place.

SRH batters in form

One more factor is that the players have regained their form. SRH openers and batters have been faltering since the beginning of the season, but the last match saw the classic SRH, where Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head added 171 runs in 75 balls for the first wicket. Also, Abhishek Sharma scored 140 runs, which is the highest ever individual score by an Indian in IPL history.

SRH’s current form lends confidence to Steyn’s prediction. In a chase against Punjab Kings, SRH successfully pursued a target of 246 runs. Will we see the 300 run in one innings? Only time will tell.
