3 venues BCCI could prefer for IPL 2025 mega auction

Last time, the IPL 2024 mini auction, which happened in Dubai, was the only time when the franchise moved abroad for a bidding war.

The IPL 2025 auction has already received strong attention from everyone, due to the background created last season, from Rohit Sharma’s removal as captain to MS Dhoni retirement speculation. Many things have led up to what could happen next. Since the IPL 2025 meeting happened between franchises and the BCCI, things have grown more, and currently, the talking point is to wrap up all the details and clarify when the IPL 2025 auction is happening and where it will take place. Reports suggest we may see some clarity on the dates soon, but most importantly, what about the venue? Do we have any clarity on that? For now, things are not exactly clear, so let’s take a look at three possible venues the BCCI could shortlist for the auction.

Venues BCCI could prefer for IPL 2025 mega auction

Dubai, UAE

Always a favorable alternative for BCCI, the UAE has consistently been a go-to place for the IPL, as we saw in 2014 and 2020. Now, Dubai, the pearl city of the UAE, could be the one to lead the IPL 2025 auction. Not to forget, as mentioned, it has been the preferred alternate venue, and the IPL 2024 mini auction was also held in Dubai. Connectivity also plays a role, the strong India-Dubai connection, especially from Mumbai, could make things easier for BCCI if they choose this venue to host the IPL 2025 mega auction. It’s important to mention that the IPL mega auction has never been held outside India, but this time, the chances for a venue change are increasing.

Mumbai, India

We can’t overlook Mumbai, the business capital of India, when discussing IPL auction venues. Mumbai has hosted IPL auctions, including the inaugural edition in 2008 and again in 2010. While Bengaluru later became the favored spot for franchise meetings, there’s no doubt that the BCCI might still consider Mumbai a strong choice for future IPL auctions. Speaking of potential venues in India, Goa also gained experience hosting the IPL auction in 2009, and it’s possible that Goa could once again come into consideration for future auctions.

Doha, Qatar

As mentioned, reports are emerging that the Middle East could host the IPL auction. Apart from the UAE, another venue that might get a chance or be shortlisted is Doha, the capital of Qatar. Also, multiple reports suggested that both the UAE and Doha are frontrunners to host the auction. Since the IPL auction has only been held abroad once, we may see this trend more in the future. Apart from the favorite, Dubai, Doha could also emerge as a top venue for IPL activities.
