The opening pair of the Rhinos, Vikrant and Ramana, produced 150 runs for no loss in their allotted 10 overs in response to the Mumbai Heroes’ 94/2 score after they had taken the field first to bat. Runs were practically pouring down.
Mumbai Heroes, who were trailing by 56 runs, were only able to score further 91/5 runs in their second innings. The Rhinos therefore only needed 36 runs to win, which they easily attained in the third over. While Ramana was named Best Batsman and Ashok Selvan Best Bowler, Vikrant was named Man of the Match thanks to his 80.
The Kollywood squad will try to regain its previous form after winning the first two iterations of the competition. The triumph on Saturday came over the reigning champions Mumbai Heroes, who had won the last tournament in 2019.
The Sandalwood squad won the championship two years in a row after defeating the Telugu Warriors and Kerala Strikers, respectively, after the Chennai Rhinos had defeated the Karnataka Bulldozers in the finals of 2011 and 2012. The Telugu Warriors won the CCL three years in a row following that.
