Rohan Bopanna-Matthew Ebden lose in Paris Masters quarters, focus shifts to ATP Finals in Turin

ATP Finals: Despite losing in the quarters of Paris Masters, Rohan Bopanna and Matthew Ebden are strong contenders to lift year ender trophy.

And, with a close defeat in the quarters of the Paris Masters, India’s best doubles player, Rohan Bopanna’s year came to an end. The team of Bopanna and Matthew Ebden lost to Dutch-Croatian team of Wesley Koolhof and Nikola Mektic 6-7, 5-7, in a very closely contested match, where the result could have gone anywhere.

With scores locked at 6-6 in the first set, it went into a tie-break, where it was decided at 15-13. Then in the second set too, it was a close affair, as there was nothing much to choose from the two teams, whose scores were locked at 5-5, at one point. Meanwhile, Rohan Bopanna and Matthew Ebden had a solid run in the Paris Masters, where they reached the quarters after a solid win over Alexander Zverev and Marcelo Melo, 6-4, 7-6(5) on Tuesday.

Reflecting on the match, Bopanna made it clear that they were up against a good pair. “First of all, they’ve been playing well this year. They’re a good team. Even a couple of years ago when they were together, they came close to winning a Grand Slam. So coming into the match, we knew it was going to be a tough match. Quick courts here, so you get only those one or two chances. As you saw, the first set tiebreak – I don’t even remember the score, we kept changing sides,” Bopanna was quoted as saying by Indian Tennis Daily.

Focus on ATP Finals

Having won the Australian Open and Miami Open this year already, now the Indo-Australian Express will have a chance to add another trophy to their cabinet — the ATP Finals, to be played in Turin, Italy, from November 10-17. Bopanna added, that he would be leaving for the venue early to get some important training time.

“Ya, straight to Turin (for the ATP Finals). Will head there a few days early and train there for a few days,” he added.
