Two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu and Paris 2024 Olympics semi-finalist Lakshya Sen will headline a 14-member Indian squad for the Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championships, which will be held in Qingdao, China, from February 11 to 16.
The national selectors have prioritized badminton world rankings and current player form in choosing the squad, which will feature HS Prannoy and Malvika Bansod as the second men’s and women’s singles players, respectively.
“The Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championships is a prestigious event that tests the depth and quality of teams,” said Sanjay Mishra, secretary general of the Badminton Association of India. “We performed well by winning the bronze medal two years ago, but this year, our goal is to reach the finals. From there, anything is possible, and we will give it our all.”
India also boasts a strong doubles contingent, with the former world No. 1 pairing of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty leading the men’s doubles lineup. The women’s doubles duties will be handled by Gayatri Gopichand and Treesa Jolly, along with Olympians Ashwini Ponnappa and Tanisha Crasto.
Tanisha Crasto will also play mixed doubles alongside Dhruv Kapila, with Sathish Kumar K and Adya Variyath forming the second combination in the squad. India secured the bronze medal in the previous edition of the championships held in Dubai in 2023.
