PKL 2021: Pro Kabaddi League begins on December 22 – The much-awaited season of Pro Kabaddi League 2021 is almost upon us and the eighth edition of the tournament will begin on December 22 in Bengaluru. However, what comes as bad news for fans, no crowd will be allowed for the tournament. Bengaluru’s Kanteerava Indoor Stadium will also host the final.

“We are very privileged that Season 8 of the VIVO Pro Kabaddi League will be hosted in Karnataka, especially as this state is a very significant geography for kabaddi and PKL fans in India.  Bengaluru has all the facilities for the conduct of big competitive sports events with best safety practices, and we look forward to demonstrating this with PKL Season 8,” the league commissioner Anupam Goswami said in a statement.

PKL 2021: However, for the first time in PKL, there will be no spectators to cheer the teams due to Covid-19 protocols and bio-bubble in place.

According to Sportstar, the promoters PKL 2021 will be held at Bengaluru Bulls’ home ground named Kanteerava Indoor Stadium. Jaipur and Ahmedabad were the other two shortlisted venues. The Pro Kabaddi League is India’s second most-watched sporting league. This will be the first indoor tournament to be held in the country since the Covid-19 outbreak.

PKL 2021: All the players will have to get vaccinated and the teams will assemble in Bengaluru at least 14 days prior to the start of the season. 

When will teams begin their pre-season camp? – PKL 2021 dates

  • Jaipur Pink Panthers – Dehradun – October 16
  • Telugu Titans – Hyderabad – October 7 
  • Bengaluru Bulls – Bengaluru – October 7

The PKL 2021 was supposed to begin in July but due to the second wave of Covid-19, the organiser pushed the league to year-end. 

Earlier in August, Pradeep Narwal broke all records to become the highest-paid athlete in the history of the Pro Kabaddi League. Up Yoddha’s bought the star raider for ₹1.65 crores. While Iran’s Fazel Atrachalli (U Mumba), Mohammed Esmaeil Nabibakhsh (Bengal Warriors) and Hadi Tajik (Puneri Paltan) were retained ahead of the season.
