Pakistan hockey ends two-year drought with victory over Japan in Asian Champions Trophy

Pakistan secured a 2-1 victory over Japan in the Asian Champions Trophy, marking their first win against them in two years.

The Pakistan hockey team beats Japan after a two-year wait. The win came in the group stage match of the ongoing Asian Champions Trophy in China 2024. Pakistan won the match 2-1, thanks to goals from Ahmed Nadeem and Sufyan Khan.

This is the first time Pakistan has won against Japan in a hockey match since 4th November 2022. In a nail-biting encounter back then, Pakistan beat Japan 5-3 for third place in the 2022 Sultan Azlan Shah Cup.

Pakistan used to dominate earlier

Pakistan and Japan first played against each other in 2017. Pakistan used to dominate Japan quite a bit, winning their first match 7-0 during the 2013 Asia Cup. After the first five meetings, Japan won their first match against Pakistan in the 2017 Melbourne 4-Nations Cup.
