India win two world cups on single day: Men’s and Women’s Kho-Kho teams claim trophy

India made history by winning both the Men's and Women's Kho Kho World Cup titles on the same day, showcasing exceptional skill and strategy in the finals.

On a memorable Sunday night, India celebrated a great achievement as both the men’s and women’s Kho Kho teams clinched victory in the first-ever Kho Kho World Cup 2025, held at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, Delhi. The teams wrote a new chapter in India’s sporting history by winning both finals on the same day. Both the teams finished the tournament unbeaten, which means they didn’t lose a single match in the World Cup.

Men’s dominant performance

The Indian men’s team defeated Nepal with a decisive 54-36 victory. Captain Pratik Waikar and standout player Ramji Kashyap led the charge with impressive skies that gave India a strong start in the first turn, where they scored 26-0. In the following turns, Aditya Ganpule played a crucial role, supporting Waikar in maintaining India’s lead. Despite Nepal’s efforts to recover, the combined efforts of Sachin Bhargo and others ensured India sealed their victory.

India’s path to victory included wins over Brazil, Peru, and Bhutan in the group stages, followed by wins against Bangladesh and a strong South African squad in the semifinals.

Women’s commanding victory

The Indian women’s team also made history with a dominant 78-40 win over Nepal. Captain Priyanka Ingle led from the front, scoring multiple touchpoints in the first turn, giving India a solid lead. Chaithra B orchestrated a significant Dream Run in the final turn, extending India’s points to 78 and closing the game.

Their journey to the title involved commanding victories over South Korea, Iran, and Malaysia in the group stages, followed by wins over Bangladesh and South Africa in the knockout rounds.

Historic milestone for India

India’s success in both categories not only crowns them as the world champions but also signifies an important t moment for Kho Kho as it expands from an indigenous sport to a potential Olympic discipline.
