Karnataka swimmer Hashika Ramachandra broke the national record in women’s 400m freestyle at the 77th Senior National Aquatic Championships on Tuesday. The teenager clocked 4:24.70 to break the previous record held by Richa Mishra (4:25.76). The four-day event is currently underway in Karnataka’s Mangaluru.

Karnataka’s Aneesh S Gowda emerged first in men’s 400m freestyle, clocking 3:56:59 while Dharshan S came 2nd with 4:01:39. In men’s 200m breaststroke, Tamil Nadu’s Dhanush Suresh finished on top whie Karnataka’s Manikanta L came second.

Karnataka’s domination in the event continued as the state’s Akash Mani finish first in men’s 100m backstroke, clocking 56:15. In women’s 100m backstroke, Soubrity Mondal finished first clocking 1:05:51 followed by Pratyasa Ray (1:05:82).
The event is taking place in Mangaluru for the first time under the umbrella of Karnataka Swimming Association. The Championships will see star Karnataka swimmers including two-time Olympian and national record holder in 50, 100 & 200m Backstroke, Srihari Nataraj, breaststroke sprinter Likith S P, national record holder and among others.
This is a very crucial meet for Indian swimmers as the ‘A’ Qualification mark for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics is up for grabs.
