“After the break, I am playing well”: PV Sindhu goes into the quarterfinals of India Open 2025

PV Sindhu is looking fresh and precise, bringing a new energy to the India Open 2025. She goes into the quarterfinal.

PV Sindhu showed her class as she advanced to the quarterfinals of the India Open 2025 Super 750 tournament with a superb win over Japan’s Manami Suizu in straight games (21-15, 21-13). Sindhu took charge right from the beginning, starting strong and maintaining her momentum throughout the match. “I’m very happy playing with her because it was our first time, and I think I was prepared for the long rallies,” Sindhu said.

She won the first game 21-15, taking control with powerful smashes and precise strokes. Sindhu continued her dominance in the second game, establishing an early and solid lead with an 11-2 score at the break. Her Japanese opponent struggled to find her footing. Sindhu wrapped up the match with a final score of 21-15, 21-13, ensuring her spot in the last eight.

“It’s important to try finishing matches in two sets. Everyone hopes to do that because going into a third set can be challenging.” Said PV Sindhu.

Sindhu is making her comeback after a short break after Paris Olympics, then she played Syed Modi last month, and now after another break where she got marries, she brings new energy to the India Open. “After a break, what I liked about my game today was my movement and my attacks were working well. Moving forward, I need to be ready for anything because matches will get harder,” she stated.

PV Seems fresh in the tournament. She has changed from personal training to group training this year, she joined Indian women’s singles coach Irwansyah Adi Pratama ahead of the India Open. On new coaching she said, “Adjusting to different coaches with varied philosophies can be difficult, but I’ve gained a lot from each one. Now, we’re focusing more on speed and movement, as I’ve been coming back from injury. It’s important to be smart and injury-free.”

“The coach’s role is crucial in understanding the right amount of training and what needs to be done with an athlete.” she added.

Ashwini Ponappa and Tanisha Crasto go out

Elsewhere, it was a challenging day for Indian doubles pair Tanisha Crasto and Ashwini Ponappa. They faced a tough matchup against Japan’s Yuki Fukushima and Mayu Matsumoto in the Round of 16. The Indian duo conceded the first game 9-21, struggling to catch up with their seventh-seeded opponents, who quickly built an 11-4 lead. Tanisha and Ashwini need to regroup and strategise if they hope to advance further in the tournament. Indian fans hope for a turnaround in this intense competition.
