BWF World Championships Draws – India in World Badminton Championship: PV Sindhu Injured: Bad news is coming in for India and PV Sindhu. The Indian badminton queen has withdrawn from the World Badminton Championship in Tokyo. Sindhu has suffered a stress fracture injury on the left ankle. It is worth noting that the 27-year-old Sindhu is winner of five medals in the Worlds including a gold. But now India’s biggest hope will not be in action in TOKYO. The 2022 edition of the Badminton World Championships will start in Tokyo from 22nd August 2022. The prestigious event in Badminton will have top shuttlers in the world fighting hard to earn the title of  World Champion.

Now Kidambi Srikanth, Lakshya Sen & Saina Nehwal will spearhead India’s challenge in Tokyo. Srikanth and Lakshya finished on the podium last year by winning the silver and bronze medal.

Indian shuttlers have been handed a tough draw. Lakshya Sen, Kidambi Srikanth and HS Prannoy have been drawn in the same half.

BWF World Championships: Tough Draw for CWG 2022 stars as PV Sindhu, Lakshya Sen, Srikanth handed difficult road to finals – Check full draw

  • PV Sindhu – Withdraws due to injury
  • Saina Nehwal is at the bottom half of the draw. She will begin against Cheung Ngan Yi of Hong Kong. If she gets past Yi, Saina will square up against sixth seed Nozomi Okuhara of Japan. The other Indian girl, Malvika Bansod plays Line Christophersen of Denmark.

  • Men’s SINGLES: Lakshya Sen, Kidammbi Srikanth and HS Prannoy – are on the same side while Sai Praneeth is in the top half of the draw.
  • Lakshya Sen: He won bronze in 2021, got a tough first round opponent in Hans-Kristian Solberg Vittinghus of Denmark.
  • HS Prannoy is expected to meet second seed Kento Momota of Japan. Of late, Momota is finding it tough to clear the first few rounds and Prannoy may face Lakshya in the pre-quarterfinals. Though Lakshya enjoys a 2-1 win-loss record, Prannoy won the last match at the Indonesia Open in June.

Men’s doubles specialists Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty got a bye in the first round and easier opponents in the second. But in the pre-quarters, they will have to be at their best when they play Goh V Shem and Tan Wee Kiong of Malaysia.
