Stokes’ England suffered a one-run defeat against New Zealand in the second Test at Wellington on Tuesday. Speaking after the loss, Stokes confirmed his intention to play in the IPL. He revealed that he has been having conversations with CSK coach Stephen Fleming about his fitness. “I am going to the IPL. I’ve had conversations with ‘Flem’ and he’s fully aware of the situation with my body. It’s a week by week case at the moment.”

Stokes also said that he is frustrated as he is not able to perform at his best due to the niggle. “I’m not going to lie, it’s incredibly frustrating knowing something has been holding me back from performing as I’d like to. I’ve been working hard with he physios and the medics. Trying to get myself back to a place where I can fulfil my role as I’ve done for the last 10 years,” he said. Due to the knee niggle, he was able to bowl only nine overs across the two Test matches against New Zealand in the recently concluded series.

Ben Stokes became Chennai Super Kings costliest-ever buy at the IPL auction this year. He was picked up for a whopping 16.25 crores. The Durham all-rounder is also being seen as the future captain of the franchise. The England Test captain has an incredible record as skipper. He has led his country to an impressive 10 wins out of the 13 matches under his reign.

Stokes is however expected to play only till the league stages of the IPL this year. He is set to miss the IPL 2023 playoffs as he is likely to leave for England early for the one-off Ireland Test in June and prepare for the Ashes series against Australia.
