In a recent interview, Sourav Ganguly said that it would be tough to fill the void left by Rishabh Pant in the Delhi Capitals side. The team has not finalised his replacement as of yet. The former batter also said that he has spoken to Pant a couple of times since his horrific accident in December 2022.

“I spoke to him a couple of times. Obviously he is going through a tough period, through injuries and surgeries and I wish him well. In a year’s time or may be in a couple of years’ time, he will be back playing for India,” said Ganguly.

DC has not yet announced Pant’s replacement, and Ganguly is still discussing whether domestic veteran Sheldon Jackson or young talent Sarfaraz Khan is the superior choice. Although Sarfaraz has an injured finger, but he will be fine before the IPL starts.

“We still need a bit of time to figure out. The next camp starts before IPL. The IPL is still a month away and the season has just started. It is difficult to get all the players together for the amount of cricket they play. There are four or five who are playing Irani Trophy. Sarfaraz has an injured finger and it’s not a broken finger. He should be okay for the IPL,” added Ganguly.

The Delhi-based franchise is on a mission to find a captain and it is possible that Australian opener David Warner might be given the position due to his experience. Delhi Capitals organised a three-day camp in Kolkata where players like Prithvi Shaw, Ishant Sharma, Chetan Sakariya, and Manish Pandey were seen along with other domestic players.
