BCCI prez Roger Binny, Rajeev Shukla to attend Asia Cup matches in Pakistan

This is the first trip a BCCI president will make to the neighboring nation since India and Pakistan broke up their bilateral cricket relationship in the wake of the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks.

As a board representative at a banquet in Lahore to honor Pakistan and Sri Lanka’s joint hosting of the Asia Cup 2023, BCCI President Roger Binny will go to Pakistan for the event.

Binny will also attend Asia Cup 2023 matches in Pakistan.

Speaking to TOI, Roger Binny said, “BCCI vice-president Rajiv Shukla and I will travel to Pakistan through the Wagah Border on September 4. Apart from the official dinner, we will also witness a couple of matches.”

On September 7, the BCCI duo will return to India. This is the first trip a BCCI president will make to the neighboring nation since India and Pakistan broke up their bilateral cricket relationship in the wake of the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks.

On August 15, Zaka Ashraf, the current chairman of the PCB managing committee, sent a formal invitation to the BCCI top officials. According to information obtained by ESPNcricinfo, every team’s official, including the BCCI, has confirmed their attendance.

A few days after their return from Sri Lanka, where they were in attendance for the India vs Pakistan match in Pallekel, Binny will be accompanied by board vice-president Rajiv Shukla to Lahore via the Wagah Border.

In response to the political difficulties between the two nations, both boards have been at odds on a number of issues at the time of Binny’s confirmation. The Pakistani government, however, put an end to months of uncertainty earlier this month by approving the PCB’s trip to India for the ODI World Cup 2023.

ESPNcricinfo has learned that Binny’s visit is purely a formality, as the two board chairmen do not currently have any scheduled meetings. Binny and Shukla’s two-day visit is likely to include going to a game at the Gaddafi Stadium on September 3 or 5.

Only four of the 13 games will be played in Pakistan, the tournament’s hosts, as the BCCI has stated it is unable to tour the nation. This resulted in a number of flashpoints before an agreement was made to approve a hybrid model with the approval of the Asian Cricket Council, which is chaired by Jay Shah, the BCCI secretary.

In the six-nation Asia Cup 2023, which starts on August 30, Nepal, India, and Pakistan have been placed in the same group. Should they get to the final, both teams could play a total of three times.
