Following the Memphis trade, Barcelona will use Carrasco as wing depth if they exercise their summer option to acquire him. Carrasco, 29, has been a mainstay in manager Diego Simeone’s sides and helped them win La Liga in 2020-21, although he has recently indicated a desire to join Barcelona.

The statement on Friday comes two days after it was claimed that the two teams had struck an agreement two days earlier, following unsuccessful talks with manager Xavi about the player’s future. Depay has finally secured his long-desired move away from Barcelona, having made four appearances this season after being rejected by Newcastle and Galatasaray in the summer.
“FC Barcelona and Club Atlético de Madrid have reached an agreement for the transfer of the player Memphis Depay for the fee of 3 million euros plus one million in variables,” a statement read on Barca’s website. “The agreement includes a preferential but not compulsory purchase option for the player Yannick Carrasco. FC Barcelona would like to publicly thank Memphis for his commitment and dedication and wishes him all the best for the future.”
With the 28-year-old now officially registered as an Atletico Madrid player, all that remains is for him to make his debut for his new club, however Saturday’s game against Real Valladolid may be too soon for the Dutchman.
