Sent into bat first, England made a tactical change as skipper Jos Buttler sent Dawid Malan to open the batting. The move however backfired as the southpaw lost his wicket early. None of the other batters too managed to step up as the visitors kept losing wickets at regular intervals. The batsmen struggled to cope with a low and slow wicket in Mirpur.
Mehidy Hasan was the pick of the bowlers with four wickets. Shakib Al Hasan, Taskin Ahmed, Hasan Mahmud and Mustafizur Rahman each complemented Mehidy with a wicket apiece. For England only Ben Duckett top-scored with 28 as they managed to post a paltry 117 on the board.
Chasing the low total, Bangladesh lost both their openers Liton Das (nine) and Rony Talukdar (nine) cheaply. However Najmul Hossain Shanto and Towhid Hridoy managed to lead the chase with a steady 41-run stand for the third wicket. England fought back hard with the ball especially with Jofra Archer piking up three wickets.
However, Najmul slammed an unbeaten 46 off 47 balls to take the team close to victory. Taskin completed the win with consecutive fours off Chris Jordan in the nineteenth over.
The third and final match of the series will be held at the same ground on Tuesday. England won the preceding three-match one-day international series 2-1.
