The young guns of Indian women’s badminton are making a statement at the BWF Thomas and Uber Cup 2024 in Chengdu, China. Following their opening victory against Canada, they secured a convincing 4-1 win over Singapore on Sunday, guaranteeing their place in the quarterfinals.

Early setback spurs Indian fightback

Singapore drew first blood, with Yeo Jia Min defeating Ashmita Chaliha in the opening singles match. However, the Indian team responded with unwavering determination.

The national champion duo of Priya Konjengbam and Shruti Mishra leveled the score with a commanding victory in the women’s doubles.

Dominant displays clinch Tie

Isharani Baruah then put India in the lead with a convincing win over Insyirah Khan in the second singles match. The momentum remained firmly with India as the pair of Simran Singhi and Ritika Thaker secured a comprehensive win in the third doubles match, effectively sealing the tie in India’s favor.

Anmol Kharab added the finishing touch with a straight-sets victory in the inconsequential third singles match, maintaining her unbeaten record in the tournament.
