Badminton World Tour Finals Highlights: World No.1 Viktor Axelsen has kickstarted the BWF World Tour finals campaign with victory on Wednesday, 7th December. The defending champion defeated China’s Lu Guangzhu 21-13, 21-11 in his first group encounter. India’s HS Prannoy meanwhile lost in his maiden appearance in the tournament as he went down in three games against Japan’s Kodai Naraoka. Meanwhile, debutant Loh Kean Yew sailed past second seed Chou Tien Chen 21-15, 21-17. In Women’s Singles, Tai Tzu Ying suffered straight game defeat against He Bing Jiao. Men’s Singles

In the first match in the Men’s Singles on the day, Anthony Ginting clinched a come-from-behind victory against his fellow compatriot Jonatan Christie. Ginting looked completely down and out in the first game as he lost it 6-21 in just 11 minutes.

The Indonesian however bounced back in the second game as he fought well against his compatriot. While the 11-9 by the interval, after the break he raced to a 21-10 victory in the second set. In the final game, he continued his dominance as he won the game 6-21, 21-10, 21-9.

World No.1 Victor Axelsen started off the World tour Finals campaign with a dominant straight game victory win against China’s Lu Guangzhu. The defending champion looked at his dominant best with a 21-13, 21-11 victory.

In the other matches on the day, Singapore’s Loh Kean Yew won his first-ever match in the BWF World Tour Championship with a 21-15, 21-17 victory against Chinese Taipei’s Chou Tien Chen.

Women’s Singles

Indonesia’s Gregoria Tunjung, who replaced PV Sindhu at the last moment in the tournament, clinched the biggest upset of the day as she defeated Women’s World No.1 Chen Yufei 21-9, 14-21, 21-16. Thailand’s Ratchanok Intanon started the tournament with a straight set victory against her compatriot Busanan Ongbamrungphan.

In the other two Women’s Singles matches, Tai Tzu Ying went down in straight games against China’s He Bing Jiao, while Japan’s Akane Yamaguchi defeated South Korea’s An Se Young.

Men’s Doubles

Japan’s Hoki Takuro and Kobayashi Yugo defeated Malaysia’s Ong Yew Sin/Teo Ee Yi 21-19, 21-16 in men’s doubles. Indonesia’s Fajar Alfian and Mohammad Ardianto clinched a straight game victory against Malaysia’s Choi Sol Gyu and Kim Won Ho. The other Indonesian duo Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan too clinched a straight game victory against Malaysia’s Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik.

Women’s Doubles

In the Women’s Doubles, Thai pair Jongkolphan Kititharakul and Rawinda Prajongjai defeated their compatriots Thai sisters Benyapa Aimsaard and Nuntakarn Aimsaard 21-19, 10-21, 21-12. Malaysia’s Tan Pear;y and Thinaah Muralitharan too face suffered a 21-23, 19-21 loss against Indonesia’s Apriyani Rahayu and Siti Ramadhanti.
