She won the opening set in a one-sided manner but Madison Keys tried to give her A-game in the second set but couldn’t outlast the World No.1 brilliant serves. The game was evenly poised for a brief span but Barty unlocked the Keys. Ash Barty will meet the winner of Iga Swiatek vs Danielle Collins in the Australian Open Final. The reigning Wimbledon champion is yet to drop a set in the major and has lost just 21 games in six matches. Victory in Saturday’s final would make Barty the first local to win the Australian Open since Chris O’Neil in 1978. Barty, who is the first Australian to reach a final at home since Lleyton Hewitt in 2005.
Barty said she cannot wait to play on Saturday.
“Absolutely. Let’s do it,” a beaming Barty said on court. “It is unreal. Honestly, it is just incredible.
“I love coming out here and playing in Australia and, as an Aussie, we are exceptionally spoiled that we are a Grand Slam nation (and) we get to play in our backyard and I am just happy that I get to play my best tennis here.
“I’ve done well before and now we have a chance to play for a title. It is unreal.”
She paid tribute to her American opponent, who endured a difficult 2021 but has started the season brightly.
“It is just so nice to see her back where she belongs. She is an amazing human being,” she said.
“You see the way she carries herself on the court. She smiles and she gives it her best. But I love most that she is a great person. We really respect her and we love her.”

- She is seeking to become the first local since Chris O Neil in 1978 to win the Australian Open.
- She will be facing another player, who is on a brilliant run of form, in Maddison Keys. While Barty won the first Adelaide International. Keys clinched the title in the second event this year.
- The 26-year old had a very disappointing last two seasons in the Grand Slam events. Her best performance in 2020 and 2021 was a fourth-round in the Wimbledon last year.
- In the last Grand Slam event, which is the 2021 US Open, she faced a first-round exit.
- She has however brilliantly roared back to form and is on a ten-match winning streak.
- In the Australian Open this year, she dropped a set only once in her third-round clash against China’s Wang Qiang.
- Apart from that game she had a very smooth run. In the quarter-final, she defeated 2021 French Open champion Barbora Krejcikova 6-3, 6-2 to enter her second Australian Open semi-final after 2015.
