Barty, along with her fiance Garry Kissick and her coaching took to the lobbies to enjoy a game of cricket, with her kit bag acting as a pair of stumps. Ashleigh Barty is certainly not new to cricket. The 25-year-old back in 2015 had taken a hiatus from tennis and opted to play cricket and involve herself in a team sport. She played locally in Queensland and her impressive performances earned her a season with the Brisbane Heat in the Women’s Big Bash League.
However, Barty soon returned to professional and reached the heights she has so far. The 25-year-old has dropped just 17 games in her five matches at Melbourne Park without losing a set. Two-time Grand Slam winner Barty is aiming to become the first Australian woman to win her home Grand Slam since Chris O’Neill in 1978 and will start as favourite against an unfancied Madison Keys on Thursday.
