Asian Badminton Championship LIVE – India at Asian Badminton Srikanth vs Ng Tze Yong LIVE: Kidambi Srikanth won the first round match against Malaysia’s Tze Yong 22-20, 21-15 in straight sets to advance to the second round of the Asia Badminton Championship. PV Sindhu displayed a terrific fightback to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat to advance to the second round of Asian Championships. She defeated Chinese Taipei’s Pai Yu Po 18-21, 27-25, 21-19. Meanwhile, Saina Nehwal made amends to a poor start to the day by Indian shuttlers. The veteran Indian displayed sheer experience opposite Korea’s Sim Yujin to seal a nail-biting tie  and advance to R2.

Earlier, along with Lakshya Sai Praneeth also lost his opening match. Malavika Bansod too slumped to a first round exit after losing against Singapore’s Yeo Jia Min 21-9, 17-21, 24-26.

PV Sindhu beat Pai Yu Po – 18-21, 27-25, 21-9

Sindhu was dominated by the Chinese Taipei opponent right from the start, Sindhu despite showing a good fight, couldn’t go past Yu Po as she lost the first set 18-21.

In the second set too Yu Po continued her dominance as she reached the break with a 11-9 lead. Yu Po gave a massive scare to Sindhu as she had three match points with the score at 20-17. Sindhu however showcased terrific skills to prevail in the contest as she won the set 27-25 to stretch the game into the decider.

In the third set, Sindhu dominated the proceedings as she raced to a 14-4 lead. Her opponent however made a comeback but she couldn’t get back the lead as Sindhu won the set 21-19 to advance to the next round.

Lakshya Sen OUSTED in ROUND 1: Li Shi Feng of China defeat the 5th Seed Indian in 3 Sets – Lakshya started the match on a very bright note. The World No. 9 easily won the 1st game by 21-12. But the dangerous Chinese player cameback to take the next two by 21-10, 21-19.

Tokyo Olympian B.Sai Praneeth also could not fight the challenge of Jonatan Christie of Indonesia. Praneeth bowed out after losing 17-21, 13-21.

Previously on Day 2 of the Asian Badminton, young Aakarshi Kashyap was also ousted in Round 1. Aakarshi lost to TOP seed Japan’s Akane Yamaguchi by 15-21, 9-21

After a disappointing start to India after the defeats of Lakshya Sen, Aakarshi Kashyap and Sai Praneeth, Saina Nehwal brought smiles as she brought the first victory of the day by defeating South Korea’s Sim Yujin 21-15, 17-21, 21-13. 

India at Asian Badminton – The tournament has finally made the return after a two-year hiatus due to the Covid 19 pandemic. The annual badminton tournament is part of the BWF 1000 series

20-year old Lakshya Sen was seeded fifth, while World Championship silver medallist Srikanth Kidambi is seeded seventh in the men’s singles .

In the Women’s singles, PV Sindhu is the fourth seed.

Men’s Singles – Srikanth Kidambi is seeded seventh in the tournament. He will face Malaysia’s Ng Tze Yong in the first round.

Sai Praneeth too has qualified for the event and he will take on fourth seed Jonathan Cristie in the opening round.

Meanwhile HS Prannoy, who reached the finals of this year’s Swiss Open, withdrew from the event due to an injury.

Men’s Doubles – India at Asian Badminton: In men’s doubles, Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy defeated Thailand’s Apiluk Gaterahong and Natchanon Tulamok in 1st MATCH.

Women’s Draw – Women’s Singles: PV Sindhu Asian Badminton: PV Sindhu, who won the Swiss Open title this year enters the tournament as the fourth seed.

In the first round, she will be up against Chinese Taipei’s Pai Yu-po. She is placed in an easy quarter. The only other seeded player in this quarter is China’s fifth seed He Bingjiao.

Saina Nehwal will also feature in this tournament. She faces South Korea’s Sim Yu-jin in the first round.

Women Doubles draw – India at Asian Badminton: In women’s doubles, Ashwini Ponnappa and Sikki Reddy were seeded fourth but decided to withdraw. The 2nd Indian pair – Gayatri Gopichand and Treesa Jolly also withdrew from the tournament.

India will now see the participation of Simran Singhi and Ritika Thaker who will take on the seventh seed Pearly Tan and Thinaah Muralitharan.

Ashwini Bhat and Shikha Gutam are the other pair from India and they will take on Malaysia’s unseeded Anna Cheong and Teoh Mei Xing in the first round.

Mixed Doubles – India at Asian Badminton: Ishaan Bhatnagar and Tanisha Crasto takes on Hong Kong’s Yeung Nga Ting and Law Cheuk in the first round. Meanwhile, Venkat Gaud Prasad and Juhi Dewangan will face Indonesia’s fourth seed Praveen Jordan and Melati Oktavianti.
