The former Arsenal captain has become a regular starter under Mikel Arteta. His contract at Arsenal will end in 2024 with an option to extend for 1 year. However, he might not stay that long in London as Bundesliga side Bayern Leverkusen are keen to get his signatures. According to reports, the German club is set to sign the midfielder for €15m fee offering him a 4-year contract.

When asked about the transfer, Xhaka told Evening Standard, “Yes. I think [the fans] deserve that as well and I do myself as well. We have one more week of this Premier League season, the first thing is I want to enjoy [it] and for sure you guys will know next week what happens with my future.

Arsenal’s last game is against Wolves at their home stadium Emirates. Xhaka will have the opportunity to say his final goodbye to the team and the fans, where he spent 7 years. His relationship with fans hasn’t been great ever since joining the club. The 30-year-old had a spat with the fans three years ago when he was captain and was even booed by fans in a game against Southampton. Despite the incident, he stayed at the club and became a regular starter.

Talking about the incident, Xhaka said, “Where I have been three years ago and how I came back and my turnaround, maybe, it’s the first in the history of the Premier League. It makes me proud, makes me happy as well. But this is my story, this is my path.”

Xhaka revealed that the treatment from fans he received after all that was not expected and thanked them for that. He said, “I will be thankful for the fans because how they treat me after this, I didn’t expect that if I am honest. I am thankful for that and I want to give them something back [for] maybe my last game on Sunday.”

Xhaka’s departure might not be a surprise for the Gunners and they seem to be well prepared for that. Arsenal have Jorginho, and Thomas Partey as their defensive midfielders and they are keen on signing Moises Caicedo from Brighton.
