Amid the never-ending Asia Cup 2023 and ODI World Cup 2023 saga, Pakistan Cricket Board is set to put another demand in front of the Board of Control for Cricket in India. Before choosing whether their national team would play its ODI World Cup 2023 games in India, PCB chairman Najam Sethi plans to request a “written guarantee” from BCCI chief Jay Shah about the Indian cricket team’s participation in the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy.

The BCCI has selected Ahmedabad, Chennai, Bengaluru, and Kolkata as potential locations for the matches, with the 2023 World Cup set to start on October 5. Sethi has been encouraged to adopt a tough stance because the ACC has yet to approve the planned “Hybrid Model” for the forthcoming Asia Cup, in which Pakistan will play their games in their home while India will play its matches in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

On May 8, Sethi will go to Dubai, where he will meet with representatives from the ACC and the International Cricket Council (ICC) as per Geo TV.

Sethi is anticipated to advocate for Pakistan’s position that they would not play their World Cup games in India until the BCCI and ICC give written assurances that India will travel to Pakistan to compete in the 2025 Champions Trophy.

According to the source in the PCB, Sethi met with certain government representatives who gave him advice on whether Pakistan should take part in the Asia Cup if it is not staged in Lahore and Dubai as the PCB had requested under their hybrid model plan to the ACC.

The Pakistan government has provided clearance to take a tough position on hosting the Asia Cup in September to the ACC members.

If the hybrid plan gets no approval, Pakistan will not participate in the competition this year, the PCB chairman will make it abundantly plain to the ACC members. He will also not put up with any additional postponements of the Asia Cup.

Pakistan Cricket Team to not participate in Asia Cup 2023?

Sethi is prepared to make some difficult choices and will not tolerate the ACC tactics of holding the Asia Cup’s locations and scheduling any longer. The source claims that PCB supremo has now made it plain that the Pakistani team will not compete in the Asia Cup 2023 if there are no matches of the tournament in Pakistan.

MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA – OCTOBER 23: Virat Kohli of India celebrates after the final run is scored during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup match between India and Pakistan at Melbourne Cricket Ground on October 23, 2022 in Melbourne, Australia.

It is unknown if Sethi would receive the assurances he requests from BCCI when he returns from Dubai on May 11.

The persistent ambiguity surrounding the Indian cricket team’s participation in the 2025 Champions Trophy may have a considerable impact on the upcoming ODI World Cup in India, and Sethi’s attitude is a blatant sign of how seriously the PCB is treating this matter.
