Wanindu Hasaranga retires from Test cricket 26, turns focus to limited overs

The all-rounder has played four test matches for Sri Lanka; however, the 26-year-old has represented the country in 48 one-day internationals and 58 T20I games.

Sri Lanka’s Wanindu Hasaranga called time on his Test career on Tuesday. A maverick in limited overs, Hasaranga has often found himself out of favour in the longest format of the game. With a number of t20 franchise leagues blossoming, the RCB star has turned his focus to limited-overs cricket.

“We will accept his decision and are confident that Hasaranga will be a vital part of our white-ball program going forward,” said Mr. Ashley De Silva, CEO of Sri Lanka Cricket

Hasaranga said the reason behind the move is to prolong his career as a limited-overs specialist. The 26-year-old plays for RCB in the IPL, while has deals in the CPL, PSL and MLC.

Hasaranga will be seen in action during the upcoming Asia Cup 2023 in Pakistan and Sri Lanka. He is a vital cog in the limited overs sides of SL, and will play a key part in their World Cup campaign.
