Manav Suthar hasn't played a competitive match in England and will play two first-class matches for Warwickshire.

Manav Suthar has signed up with the Warwickshire County Cricket Club. The spin-bowling all-rounder made his Test debut for India against Afghanistan in Mullanpur last week, picking up a 6-wicket haul in the first innings and ending the match with 7 scalps.

Manav Suthar to play County cricket

With a small gap in the schedule, Suthar has decided to play two matches for Warwickshire in the County Championship. The 29-year-old will play against Yorkshire at Scarborough from June 12 to 15 and against Somerset at Taunton from June 19 to 22 before the Blast resumes.

Suthar has played 30 first-class matches after making his debut in 2022. The left-arm orthodox spinner played in Australia for India A in 2024, but the Warwickshire stint will be the first time Suthar has played any form of competitive cricket in England.

“I’m incredibly excited to be joining Warwickshire for the next two County Championship games. The team have started the season very well, so I’m hoping that I can play a part in helping them in their push for the title,” Suthar said.

IND vs SL Test preparations later

After making a strong impression on his Test debut, Suthar is anticipated to be included in India’s tour of Sri Lanka. The Shubman Gill-led team will play 2 Test matches from August 15 to 27. India hasn’t toured Sri Lanka since 2017. Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav have experience of playing there, but Washington Sundar or Suthar don’t.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has planned first-class matches in Sri Lanka after India A’s tri-series against Afghanistan A and Sri Lanka A ends on June 21. Suthar is expected to be part of those matches, but that gives him ample time to ply his trade in England and work on his game in foreign conditions.
