Urvil Patel rained sixes at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. The 27-year-old had played some fantastic cameos for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. 24 off 12 and 17 off 9 were his last two innings. The wicketkeeper batter entered the middle with the same intent against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and 3.2 overs later, Urvil had smashed the joint-fastest fifty in the IPL.
Urvil Patel’s record-breaking maiden IPL fifty
Sanju Samson’s 28-run cameo had given the platform to Urvil to go boom. CSK were 45/0 after 3.4 overs chasing 204. Now the wicketkeeper had to finish the powerplay strongly. And that he did. After taking a single off his first ball, he smashed Avesh Khan for 3 sixes to end the fifth over.
Rishabh Pant handed the ball to Digvesh Rathi for the last over of the powerplay. The leg spinner from Delhi had dismissed Samson and was coming off defending 20 off the last over against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru just three days ago. But Urvil didn’t care. He welcomed Digvesh with a six over long-on.
The fun didn’t stop there. The next three balls went for six, four, and six. At one point, Urvil was 31 off 6. Thanks to him, CSK ended the powerplay 97/1. They were miles ahead in the game now. He was 41 off 8, and it felt as if Yuvraj Singh’s record were in danger. But that didn’t happen. He did, however, reach his maiden IPL fifty in just 13 balls, the joint-fastest in the league’s history.

Urvil continued to smash away, tonking Shahbaz Ahmed for 2 more boundaries. But Prince Yadav pumped the brakes. He allowed him to score just 3 runs off 5 balls and even had him dropped as Digvesh let go of a sitter at backward point. Luckily for LSG, Urvil found the fielder again in the next over and departed for 65 (23). But the job was done, and CSK were on their way towards victory.
