Rohit Sharma has missed 4 matches in IPL 2026 after injuring his hamstring on April 12.

The Mumbai Indians (MI) and injuries are going hand in hand in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. Even before the season started, they lost left-arm orthodox spinner Atharva Ankolekar, who had to undergo surgery on his knee. Then, Rohit Sharma sustained a hamstring injury, due to which he’s missed 4 matches already and will miss even more games.

Another MI opener out with injury

Mitchell Santner has been ruled out of the tournament after he injured his left shoulder while taking a catch. South Africa’s Keshav Maharaj has been announced as his replacement. As if this wasn’t enough, Mumbai is hit with another injury. Quinton de Kock, who’d hit an unbeaten hundred against the Punjab Kings (PBKS), has been ruled out of the MI vs Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) match.

MI captain Hardik Pandya stated that the South African wicketkeeper-batter had injured his wrist and will miss the game. As a result, Ryan Rickelton, who was initially the keeper MI had opted for, returns as the opener. Santner’s injury also brings Will Jacks into the team, and the Englishman will return Danish Malewar as the opener.

“Mitchell (Santner) was unfortunate, and so was Quinny today. He just did something to his wrist. We have a couple of changes for this team. Ryan (Rickelton) comes in place of Quinny. We’ve got Robin Minz,” Hardik said after winning the toss and opting to bowl first at the Wankhede Stadium.

Rohit Sharma to miss at least 2-3 more games

Pandya also provided an update on Rohit’s fitness. As mentioned above, the former MI captain has a hamstring injury, which he sustained during the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) match on April 12. He’s missed four matches, including the SRH one. According to Pandya, he will miss at least 2-3 more games.

“Rohit is going to take a couple more games. He’s been trying; it’s not up to exactly where he would want, so he’s not available for the team,” Hardik added.

Rohit’s return date could be May 10 against RCB or May 14 against PBKS. But considering how his comeback has been pushed further and further, he might take longer.
