Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have formally approached the BCCI after taking exception to the DJ’s conduct during their April 5 clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. The five-time champions have objected to both the choice of music and certain remarks made over the public address system during the game.
At the centre of the issue is the playing of the track “Dosa, idli, sambar, chutney, chutney”, a meme-associated tune often linked to South Indian stereotypes. CSK believe the timing and context of the song, played before their innings, crossed the line.
Confirming the development, a senior IPL official told IndianExpress, “We have received a complaint from CSK and are looking into it.“
CSK managing director Kasi Viswanathan did not mince words while explaining the franchise’s stance. “The DJs are usually around to support the home team. But at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, it was different. Certain comments were made against our players. Considering it, we have written to the BCCI to have a look into it,” he said.
CSK flag issues in front of BCCI
The Chennai-based franchise has also flagged comments made by the DJ following the dismissal of their players during the match. According to the team management, the role of the DJ is to energise the crowd, not take digs at opposition players. “They are not there to undermine the rivals or insult them,” a CSK official said.
Interestingly, this isn’t the first time the song has found its way into the CSK–RCB rivalry. Last season, a similar episode unfolded when RCB’s Jitesh Sharma was seen singing the same tune ahead of a game in Chennai, only for CSK’s DJ to play it when he was dismissed. The incident had prompted CSK’s management to step in and lay down clear instructions to avoid such targeted messaging in the future.
Often dubbed the Southern Derby, contests between CSK and RCB have grown tougher on the field. RCB’s social media took a dig at MS Dhoni after their ruthless win over CSK in IPL 2026. In a post, where Jitesh Sharma was keeping, RCB captioned: “Ek tha jo stump ke peeche se game badal deta tha.” While the post was made to compliment Jitesh’s glove work, it was a direct nod to Dhoni, who was missing the game due to an injury.
