Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya and Royal Challengers Bengaluru star Tim David have been penalized for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct in the game between MI and RCB on Sunday. The encounter saw MI lose to the defending champions by 18 runs after failing to chase down the 241-run target that was set at the Wankhede Stadium. David was fined for his antics with the on-field umpires, while Pandya has been fined for maintaining a slow-over rate.

Tim David fined 25% of match fee

The incident occurred in the 18th over of the MI vs RCB match when David took it upon himself to inspect a ball change despite getting multiple warnings from the on-field umpire. He was seen flicking the ball in the air to check even as the umpires objected. As a result, he has been fined 25% of his match fee. The RCB all-rounder accepted his offence.

David was found to have breached Article 2.4 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which relates to “disobeying an umpire’s instruction during a match.” The first incident occurred when the umpires changed the ball during the 18th over (17.2) of RCB’s batting innings. He wanted to have a look at the ball and did not hand it over despite being repeatedly asked to do so. The second incident occurred during the 20th over (19.2), when he again did not hand over the ball to the umpires, amounting to repeated failure to comply with the instructions or directives of the umpires,” the release stated

Hardik Pandya fined for slow-over rate

Meanwhile, Hardik Pandya has joined the list of captains to be fined for maintaining a slow over rate in the contest against RCB. The MI vs RCB contest on Sunday was the third-longest game in IPL (in terms of balls bowled), with 262 deliveries being bowled during the course of the game. Out of this, MI bowled 132 deliveries, which comprised 11 wides and 1 no-ball. RCB, on the other hand, bowled 130 balls, including 9 wides and one no-ball.

Hardik Pandya, Captain, MI, has been fined for maintaining a slow over-rate. As this was his team’s first offence of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, he has been fined INR 12 lakhs,” the release added.
