Tamim Iqbal was appointed head of a committee which looked into allegations of political favouritism, malpractice and abuse of power inside the BCB.

The Bangladesh government has overhauled the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). A few days ago, Bangladesh’s Sports Minister, Aminul Haque, had assured that an investigation would be held regarding the decision to withdraw from the T20 World Cup 2026, allegations of political favouritism in the BCB, and malpractice and abuse of power in the board elections, which were held in October 2025.

Earlier today, the Bangladesh government dissolved the board of directors after a 5-member investigation committee found the allegations to be true.

Tamim Iqbal takes over BCB

According to ESPNcricinfo, Tamim Iqbal will take over as the BCB President, replacing Aminul Islam. The former Bangladesh captain will become the youngest chief in the board’s history and will lead an 11-member ad hoc committee, which includes another former Bangladesh captain, Minhajul Abedin, and former cricketer-turned-commentator Athar Ali Khan.

Rashna Imam, Mirza Yeasir Abbas, Syed Ibrahim Ahmed, Israfil Khasru, Tanjil Chowdhury, Salman Ispahani, Rafiqul Islam, and Fahim Sinha will serve as the other members of the BCB committee.

Bangladesh’s National Sports Council (NSC) Director Mohammed Aminul Ahesan confirmed the development. He stated that the International Cricket Council (ICC) has been informed about the decision and awaits their response.

“As part of the National Sports Council’s responsibility, we have informed the ICC that this board of directors was not formed in a proper manner and is not able to complete its work in a proper manner. We have informed the ICC our decision to dissolve this board of directors. The NSC plays an important role for Bangladesh cricket or any sport in Bangladesh and on behalf of the government. Therefore, we are optimistic about the BCB, and we think that the ICC will definitely uphold this decision,” Ahesan said.

In January, Iqbal had urged the BCB not to pull out of the T20 World Cup. In the aftermath, the then BCB finance committee chairman, M. Nazmul Islam, had labelled him as an Indian agent. Now, Iqbal has come into power and led the way to dissolve the current BCB board of directors.
