PSL 2026: A minor controversy erupted in the opening match of the PSL, where the ball took the colour of HK jersey, and turned pink.

PSL 2026 started on Thursday, at the Gaddaffi Stadium in Lahore — with the opening match between Lahore Qalandars and Hyderabad Kingsmen. While the playing conditions remained standard, there was an element of surprise, that caught everyone’s attention right from the very start of the encounter.

Major concern for PSL & Team Hyderabad Kingsmen

While all the T20s are played with the white ball, the ball used in the match bore a ‘pink’ look. That left some of the fans watching from their homes, a little surprised. But that was due to the ball taking the color of the Hyderabad jersey, which is maroon is color.

Though the ball was changed in the 15th over, it did raise suspicions over the quality of the overall kit. Such an incident remains unheard of, where the ball took the colour of the kit. Nonetheless, it is up to the franchise, PCB, and the stakeholders to see now, if amends can be made, or else, this would be a regular feature in all the matches that Hyderabad play from here on.

‘Pink’ ball changed after 15 overs

As far as the match is concerned, after batting first, Lahore Qalandars went on to score 199/6 in 20 overs. Fakhar Zaman scored a quickfire 50 and had an opening stand of 84 with Mohammad Naeem. Haseebullah Khan chipped in 40, while Sikandar Raza scored a blistering 24.

Shaheen Afridi came an smacked two sixes on the last two deliveries, to give a final push to the innings. As far as Hyderabad bowling is concerned, Hassan Khan was their best bowler picking up figures of 2/30. Riley Meredith also returned with figures of 2/39, while Saim Ayub was very effective with his 0/31.
